Your Socket Seat, set up right.
Five minutes now saves the two mistakes people actually make: sitting on it backwards, and judging it on day one. Here is the whole setup, in the order it matters.
1. Position it
Mesh side up, openings toward the back of the chair, groove at the rear. Sit fully back so your sit bones settle over the openings. If you feel pressure at an opening’s edge, shift the cushion an inch forward or back — an inch is usually the whole adjustment. On a seat that stays slippery, some customers put a small non-slip rubber mat under the cushion, cut to its size so it stays out of sight.
2. Expect firm. That is the design.
The cushion works by holding two openings open under your body weight, and soft foam cannot do that — so the core is deliberately firm, closer to a firm mattress than a plush pillow. Most people coming from soft cushions report an adjustment period of a few days. Judge it at the end of week one, not minute one; the 100-day trial exists so that you never have to rush the verdict. Why firm beats soft over a long sit is the two-minute version of the reasoning. And if the surface itself feels harsher than you want — or one edge of an opening keeps announcing itself — some customers remove the cover and wrap the bare foam in a smooth pillowcase; the taut cover adds a little surface firmness of its own.
3. Reset your chair and desk
The cushion raises you about 2″, and your old setup was tuned to the old height. At a desk, drop your chair so your elbows land where they used to. In a car, most drivers find the extra height improves sightlines — but recheck your mirrors, and if your roof is low, check headroom before a long drive.
4. If something feels off, measure
Persistent edge pressure that repositioning does not fix usually means the geometry and your anatomy disagree — which is measurable, not mysterious. The 60-second cardboard measurement tells you whether your sit-bone spacing sits in the designed range. If it turns out the cushion is wrong for your body, that is exactly what the trial is for: send it back, no justification needed. For the other common week-one complaints, the one-page troubleshooting guide (PDF) has a fix for each.
5. Washing it
Unzip the three zippers and remove the cover — machine wash cold on gentle, then hang dry. No tumble dryer and no iron: heat shrinks the mesh, and a shrunk cover will not go back over the foam. Never machine wash the foam; wipe it with a well-wrung damp cloth and let it air dry.

After your first week
That is when you know, not on day one. However it is working out for you, an honest review on your Amazon orders page (opens in a new tab) helps the next person decide, and it helps an independent brand more than you might guess. Not working out? The trial covers you — a refund or a replacement, your choice, and no explanation needed.
The other cushion we make
Someone at home hurts at the tailbone instead?
One sore point on the midline is a different problem from two either side. The Aylio Coccyx Cushion leaves the tailbone over a channel cut through to the rear edge — made since 2013, 14,000+ Amazon ratings. Which shape for which pain takes a minute.
One question, one tap
How did you first hear about the Socket Seat? One tap, completely anonymous — it tells us which of our efforts actually reach people.
Thank you — noted. That genuinely helps a small company decide where to show up.
